Orangutan Nest Watch
Drones could be the future of conservation, and this project is a pioneer of that technology. Founded by Sol Milne, Dr. Julien Martin and Prof. David Burslem from the University of Aberdeen, Orangutan Nest Watch combines state of the art surveying methods with a citizen science monitoring scheme to maximise data collection efficiency. The aim is to locate and quantify orangutan nests and strangler fig trees in the in the UNDP Project Area in Sabah, Malaysian Borneo. This will help researchers understand orangutan population densities and identify areas of forest in special need of protection. The faster this data can be collected, the better for the future of the critically endangered Bornean orangutan.
